You need to add the libraries you need to link to, also to the configure.ac file. E.g. WXCODE_CHECKS([2.8.0], [core,base]) => WXCODE_CHECKS([2.8.0], [xml,core,base]) I probably should better describe this detail in the maintainer's guide. I'll add it asap.
