To start off with, Illustrator and photoshop files are both handled by GIMP ( http://www.gimp.org ) but they do have some limits, since i don't know to which version the last support is... i think it can handle all the way to photoshop 7 with ease.

as for making compiling better, i recommend looking at scons, and python since that is how it provides support for larger platforms, including completely custom host builds. ( IE Windows, Mac OSX, slackware, Redhat, and ubuntu all at once )

But gentildemon don't want to accept contributions made with "propriatary" (is it the right spell?) software like Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. Because we can't modify the source of the contribution! I agree with him.
