To start off with, Illustrator and photoshop files are both handled by
GIMP ( http://www.gimp.org ) but they do have some limits, since i don't
know to which version the last support is... i think it can handle all
the way to photoshop 7 with ease.
as for making compiling better, i recommend looking at scons, and python
since that is how it provides support for larger platforms, including
completely custom host builds. ( IE Windows, Mac OSX, slackware, Redhat,
and ubuntu all at once )

But gentildemon don't want to accept contributions made with "propriatary" (is

Because we can't modify the source of the contribution! I agree with him.
