I predict that this is the year we find out whether the Academy's attempts
to diversify their voters have had any effect.

If the voters are still dominated by rich men in their 70s, The Fabelmans
takes the top prizes, because a) it's a lovely film and b) it's by a rich
man in his 70s, for people of a similar generation. It also gets bonus
points for being largely about Steven Spielberg's mother Leah, who held
court at her restaurant on Pico for decades. Leah was a lot, but everyone
loved her.

Everything Everywhere All At Once gets everyone else's vote, because it's a
movie for basically everyone else. Rich dudes in their 70s can like it if
they want to, but they're probably actually voting for The Fabelmans or The
Banshees of Inisherin. (Also a lovely movie - somehow simultaneously the
funniest and saddest of the year.) Likeliest outcome is probably EEAAO wins
Picture, Spielberg wins Director, and Banshees upsets them both for
original screenplay.

All Quiet on the Western Front wins International Feature, but it doesn't
matter because it wasn't up against Decision to Leave.

The performance of Naatu Naatu at the ceremony launches a thousand memes.

I never catch up on all the sleep I have missed today and am making
stream-of-consciousness guesses well into July.
