At the risk of being all name-droppy... I met Jeff and his girlfriend Vikki
(familiar to anyone who saw "Celebrity Rehab") at a party over the holidays.
He was in bad shape. Jeff reminded me of my uncle after he had a series of
strokes: One minute he'd be demanding attention and need help getting
himself to the bathroom; the next, he wanted to be left alone; the next,
he'd wander off somewhere and Vikki would have to track him down.

So, sad, but I can't same I'm surprised.

Vikki was actually quite nice and surprisingly sane. I think she genuinely
loved him, but she also loved the attention she got for taking care of him
(or enabling him, depending on your point of view).
