I don't really buy it, in no small part because NBC hasn't got *anything* to put at 10 pm and that's the bigger money-loser if it has to resort to nervous humming and reruns nobody watches. On the other hand, since I only watch the first half-hour of Letterman on Tivo the next day Conan starting at 12:05 would smooth out my late-night programming needs and remove the strain of two programs at once that it sometimes faces.
