I tried both the safe mode option and a repair, but neither thing seems to work. However, I was able to find a solution, although I am a bit confused?!? If I use "Run As Adminstrator..." on the Visual Studio shortcut, it works perfectly, but otherwise it fails at the splash screen as described earlier.
