Hi, My question is a simple one. How do I tell Wix not to shutdown other applications during an upgrade?
I have an installer that installs Explorer shell handlers in addition to the entire product. The burn bundle decides when to install 32 Vs 64 bit MSI which each contain the handlers. Display internal UI is turned off for all of them. When i try to upgrade my app on a Windows 8 (32 or 64) machine, Wix (or the Windows Restart Manager) do not shut down the explorer and even if they do the restart is instant. On the other hand on Windows 7 32 bit it almost always shuts down multiple apps in addition to the windows explorer and doesn't restart it at the end of the install. This leaves the user in an awkward position of having to use the task manager to start the explorer shell and get his bottom bar back which is clearly not the desired experience for end users. I would like to not stop the explorer on Windows 7 and let the upgrade require a reboot. I have tried the approaches mentioned on previous threads and on StackOverflow without success. I have also disabled all the custom actions (there are simple 3-4 of them) with no effect and have run out of options so any help will be appreciated.
