Msi logs definitely have a LOT of information in them and can be really
hard to comprehend, but I've found that being able to understand them is
the most important ability for analyzing msi problems (at least for me).
One thing that helped me a lot to understand how to interpret them is this
article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/richard_macdonald/archive/2007/04/02/how-to-interpret-windows-installer-logs.aspx

For reading actual logs which I am having trouble with, sometimes I use
Legit Log Viewer because of the way it can highlight output from different
threads with different colors, and shows the breaks between long lines
which wrap. I find that it makes logs easier to follow. If I recall, you
have to delete the first line of the log for it to correctly parse the file
though...

And this is probably the most important piece of advice:

WatchGuard Dimension instantly turns raw network data into actionable
security intelligence. It gives you real-time visual feedback on key
security issues and trends. Skip the complicated setup - simply import
a virtual appliance and go from zero to informed in seconds.
