Jacob, The changing GUIDs in the heat extraction was indeed the issue, I can't believe I didn't notice that. I do have one more question the application.exe.config files that are deployed are being overwritten each time the installer runs this is because the application uses them and changes the content at runtime. In the log I am getting Allowing installation of component: GUID even though a modified unversioned keyfile exists and file versioning rules would disable the component Is there any way to prevent this from happening as this causes the application to lose its settings. Hi Jacob, I would like to start by saying thanks for your help with this and sorry I haven't responded sooner, I am guessing I am on UK time and you are on US time. Yes the msi works correctly outside the bundle and yes I do increment the BuildNo MSI Property with each build, this is done by Hudson our build management tool. I believe that the log for the uninstall was in the zip file (Document_Converters_20130523162623.log) I was going from version 2.8.0.78 to 2.8.79.0 as you can see I moved the location of the BuildNo in the version as I had read during my googling that it ignores the values in the fourth position of the version no when doing version comparisons. This is indeed an interesting issue, it just appears like the uninstall of the previous bundle removes everything other than my service executables. I may have spotted the issue. I was just looking through the log snippet below that you sent me and trying to work out which components it was talking about and I noticed that the component GUIDs generated during the heat process change each time, I am guessing this is not a good thing and is probably what is breaking the ref count and causing the uninstall. Is there a way to prevent heat from doing this. In my heat directory in the project file I have the following set AutoGenerateGuids="false" GenerateGuidsNow="true" I am guessing one of these is causing the issue. Hi, I am pretty new to the world of WiX but have found it to be a very useful tool. I am having the following issue however and after 2 days of googling it is driving me nuts. I have a bootstrapper that install .net 4.0 if required and then installs my msipackage. I opted for the major upgrade everytime when making changes to the files installed. Each of my executable files have their version number updated to the current revision number in SVN. When I install my application the first time it installs fine and all the services are started and installed and all the required files are there. When I run the next version of the installer (so a major upgrade) it seems to be installing the new msi and then uninstalling the old one. At this point all that is left on my machine is the service executables and nothing else, all the other files have been removed including the .exe.config files rendering the application useless. Any ideas what I am doing wrong, its driving me crazy!!!
