Thanks Daniel, that did the trick. It created the link with the relative path and then I simply replaced the relative path with the environment variable in the .wixproj file and it did the trick.
robmen, we have not yet looked into creating any .wixlibs as of yet, but that is something that we will be looking at when we have developed a bit more WiX install projects and therefore have had a chance to look at what is common between our projects and once we know that then we can start looking at converting those to .wixlibs.
