I've been playing around with it some more and it seems that the problem is tied to a poorly formed ExePackage block. After some discussions here it doesn't make any sense for our deployment to use the RemotePayload option since the software is to be deployed on isolated networks with no external connections. I removed the RemotePayload block and added the SourceFile property and the light problem is no longer present. I do however have many issues with the syntax and usage conditions and properties that I need to work through. I will work on that angle in more depth tomorrow and hopefully will come to a better understanding of how WiX works.
