The warning dialog seems to have gone away....

My best guess is that I somehow managed to invalidate a dsig on one of the 
driver files then inadvertently restored original (valid) file(s) while 
investigating the problem. Hopefully that's it and the problem won't 
mysteriously reappear at some inopportune moment.

Maybe the driver is not WHQL signed?

I'm not sure why you wouldn't have the same issue with DPInst, however.  I was 
under the impression that the various DIFX methods (DPInst, DIFxApp,
DIFxAPI) would all call the same underlying code to perform the driver install. 
 Seems like anything else would be a crazy design.
