I am working on a project that makes use of setupbld from Wix 3.0 to build a bootstrapper (even though we use Wix 3.5 to build our MSIs). We don't chain MSIs or install pre-requisites. We use a bootstrapper for UAC compatibility. For this limited purpose, setupbld works OK.
In order to help with internet searches, note that we also use mt.exe from Windows SDK 7.1 to insert a manifest into the setup.exe stub from Wix 3.0. The manifest for UAC compatibility and elevation of privileges is plaintext XML and can be found with internet searches. What I can't figure out is why setupbld was removed from Wix 3.5, before burn in 3.6 is reliable. Wasn't anyone using setupbld?
