What rub's me is how the Windows Installer Team talks a good talk about Agility Trends in Packaging and "No Support for Managed Code" while DevDiv goes off and makes the investment that raises the bar. The rest of the world is faced with either investing huge money to get this functionality as no off the shelf tools provide it or simply ignore the direction Microsoft says we should go in.
Mostl of the MSI use cases various Micrsoft teams found lacking and developed around should make it back into an MSI release. The SDK should have a bootstrapper similar to what VS does. For that matter, I don't think it'd be a half bad idea to incorporate WiX into the SDK. It's great that WiX is trying to do all of this for but 10 years and counting of development is simply too long to wait. The problem I see with Burn is that it has .NET as a prerequisite, which means you have a minimum of about 50MB if you want to support offline installations. -- Bruce Cran ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances and start using them to simplify application deployment and accelerate your shift to cloud computing. http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev _______________________________________________ WiX-users mailing list WiX-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wix-users ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances and start using them to simplify application deployment and accelerate your shift to cloud computing. http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev _______________________________________________ WiX-users mailing list WiX-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wix-users
