I finally found the right link, and submitted an "artifact" describing
the problem. I tried to attach the little MSI that I created, but was
told that 256K was the limit.
I zipped the file, rewrote the report, and submitted it.

I realize now that you were talking about the MSI that dark.exe couldn't
handle, not the MSI that I installed dark from. Thinking that it might
be fixed in a later version, I downloaded the newest weekly 3.5b, but
that raised the same error.
I've built a plain-vanilla test app, with a Visual Studio installer
(MSI) that does nothing special, and dark.exe failed in a similar way.
Same int/string cast error. I'd be glad to submit a bug and include the
MSI that will reproduce it, but I have no experience with the Tracker on
the site and my ESP isn't working well enough to figure out how to start
a new submission. (I was logged on, but that didn't seem to matter.)
Would you like me to send the MSI as an attachment to an email? If so,
let me know where.
Alternatively, tell me how to accomplish a bug submission.

As far as I know, no one else has seen the issue you describe. It is
very
likely there is something unique to the MSI you have that dark does not
like
and we need to teach dark to handle it.
