I cannot help much on the Wix side...
However, for the GUID generation...
I am using Wix 3.0 and I edit my Wix "projects" with VS.
I create a Macro (code below) to replace the current selection (be it empty
or not) with a new Gui!
Now it's just a matter of
1. press the button I associated with this macro
2. run the macro from the command window

the macro needs to be in VB (I suspect it's because of better COM suppport,
hence I hope C# macro would become available in VS2010/.NET4)

Anyway, here is the Macro:
    Sub InsertGuid()
        Dim guids = Guid.NewGuid().ToString().ToUpper()
        Dim o = DTE.ActiveDocument.Selection
        o.Text = guids
    End Sub
