I've got something like this:
<Component Id="..." Guid="...">
...
<Shortcut Id="Shortcut.SharedFiles"
Name="My Shared Files"
Target="[MySharedDocuments]"
Directory="StartMenu.MyProduct"
Show="normal" />
</Component>
Which (under WiX3 at least) seems to work fine.
