Visual Studio should do this a custom resource import (Add Resource and Import). I just tested by having a zip file as custom resource of type D1 in a Visual C++ 2005 exe as a dumb test, and opening the binary afterwards shows it is in there. I think this means MSBuild will do the same, yes?
