Ok, after I found a way to enable logging when coming from "Add/Remove
Programs" (see at the end), I was able to see that indeed AppSearch runs and
sets the properties allright.

However the features conditioned by those properties remained switched off.

I now found the reason: as it happens those features do not yet contain any
components!

So MSI just switches them off in maintenance mode. I can understand this
logic. But then why not do the same in install mode?

Thanks,
Mark

P.S.

Enabling machine wide, permanent logging:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
"Debug"=dword:00000007
"Logging"="voicewarmup"
