Well, I'm by no means an expert in these things, but you might try asking the rest of the group. I'm pretty sure you don't want to be trying to extract .ZIP files from your installer though, as there are all sorts of issues with figuring out which program to use to extract them, how to deploy it, licensing, etc, and depending on your OS target, it may not support .zip out of the box.

RE: [WiX-users] Zip files and Wix
Can It Be Done
Hello
I need to place a lot of files in this zip, with the current version of wix
i would need to remove the short date date attribute on every file, or
right in code every file i wanted included, its also not a finished package
so a zip file would help when i need to add finished files to the install
through the zip file without modifying the actual installer.....if that
makes sense. I am open to suggestion, im new to wix and im currently not
aware of the wix compression or how i could put this to use for my
installer
Thank you

Why zip files? Why not just use MSI's compression?
