The main reason being individuals like me (newer developers) who more or
less started programming in C#; that was primarily the reason why I started
this thread anyway. Folks like Phil Wilson proposed the idea of learning
C++, and that had a meaningful end.

But more or less, more and more people are adopting .NET (and by .NET I mean
C#, or any other language hosted on top of the CLR), and at least all the
younger, newer developers that I know of favor C# over C++.

Again, I am not pointing fingers; I'll try and make an effort to let the
Windows Installer team about how they are ignoring a larger base of
developers by not supporting managed .dlls (hopefully, the team comprises of
people similar to Chris Adams [[IIS team] and Jesse Kaplan [CLR team] who
take note of what fellow developers have to say and try and incorporate
their ideas).

That's what bothers me, too. If somebody really wanting to write a managed
(or unmanaged) custom action could tell us why he or she needs it in the
first place. I completely agree with Richard Foster, me, too: the only real
custom action I ever wrote was to check the product key entered by the user.
I have a suspicion that the need for custom actions stem from sloppy
programming of the application to be installed rather than any real,
legitimate need for something WI can't solve.
