Creating a Component Catalog that prevents the Component Rules from being
broken is a very, very hard problem. It'd be awesome if you wanted to take
that on. There is very little documentation on WiX v3 Extensions, the code is
really the documentation. I had to learn heat and its harvesters through the
debugger after Derek left. <smile/>
If you get serious about creating a Component Catalog, I'd be happy to write up
all the cases that have to be handled correctly. There's a lot of them.

Subject: [WiX-users] Heat Component Catalog extension
Hi,
I have a need for a harvester (this is the terminology used by Heat) which is
capable of generating quickly a setup for a folder many times, keeping track of
the components Guids and identifiers such that component rules aren't brocken.
Basically I need to include Heat.exe in a batch so that it creates the setup
for a help folder (many files; changes often). Derek mentions on his blog
something like this is possible to be done easily:

I checked the WixUtilExtension project and it looks like it must be pretty
similar with that one, except that it needs the Component Catalog added(of

wondering if anybody tried creating a similar extension? Is there any doc out
there?
