I agree with you but.... What happens then is they install and then complain that they get the prompt. And when evaluating the product, the salespeople then complain that it is impacting sales.

Speaking with my admin hat on I'd really rather an application/installer did none of these things, and was unable to do so without requesting administrative approval (something I believe vista enforces.. hopefully even when running an MSI). Unfortunately on XP this can be done silently without any confirmation just by the installer running netsh firewall in the background... so it's probably a lost cause.
