Ok, thanks..
I give it a weekend to think about it ;-) and will see
what to do; there are more things involved than just the agreement ant the time
it might take for these discussions.
For example the my own time limit for certain projects
:-)

signed an assignment agreement it is now possible for your changes (bug
fixes/enhancements) to be added to the WiX toolset. 2. When you
submit the changes to wix-devs, there will be discussion about the changes
there. In general, I would encourage you to have the discussion before
writing the change because often the discussion completely changes the
solution. If the discussion ends (sometimes it's as short as, "Oh, yeah,
good catch") in the positive, I will pick up the patch and get it applied to the
WiX toolset. 3. My speed of
applying changes varies wildly based on the amount of work I have to do in a
week and how well written the change is. If I get a patch that is up to
date and applies, builds, and works cleanly then it rarely takes me more than a
week. I spend pretty much every Tuesday night working on the WiX toolset,
so most changes happen then. 4. I would
love to have the problem where 40 people are sending in
fixes/enhancements. We're not even close to that problem right now so I'm
not worrying about it. <smile/> 5. Again, good
fixes should be able to go in at least every other week. There were a
couple cases where fregro had to shame me because I was a couple months behind
but gentle reminders take care of that. Bad fixes or fixes that I have to
do a lot of work to integrate will take *much* *much* longer to get
in. 6. WiX v2 is
pretty much all locked down. You'd have to find a crashing bug that has no
good workaround or corrupts data for us to take changes there pretty much.
WiX v3 is a lot more opened up. However, Derek has been suggesting that we
seriously consider not adding significant amounts of code to the core WiX
toolset and instead focus on the layers above the core (like extensions).
I have to agree with him. That doesn't mean if there isn't a really good
addition to the core toolset that we won't take it but if you're looking for
things to add, I wouldn't suggest starting there. 7. Beyond all
that, I highly encourage you to start discussions on the wix-devs mailing list
before implementing lots of new features. People are usually much more
relaxed about discussing new ideas/alternatives when there hasn't been a
significant amount investment in a particular solution.

[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Albert van Peppen Hi, I have a question about what you can
do with a signed assignment agreement .. If i do sign the agreement, what
does this mean then? Ok, but then what does happen?
Somebody needs to test these bugfixes/enhancements and they are to be put in the
build. So how are you guys handling this,
if i may ask? This because i am more than willing
to submit some code/samples/fixes etc. but when i do it means that it is
something i already use and would like it to be in the next release (or at least
in the not so far future <wink/> ). Same for Wix-2 and Wix-3; should a
enhancement in Wix-2 also be available in Wix-3 (and vise
versa)? Greetings,
