Not any help, just an observation that github does something similar, when
viewing the same directory I get a message:

Sorry, we had to truncate this directory to 1,000 files. 933 entries were
omitted from the list.

I guess this is an issue where others host for us, they are limiting
resource intensive ops, such as the Gitlab diff restriction.
