Now I know this thread is a bit old - still it helped me solve my own similar 
problem with zlib - so I'm leaving a solution here, incase anyone would be 
googling for this as well.

Try:
$(MAKE) /$(MAKEFLAGS) -f win32/Makefile.msc zlib1.dll 
LOC="$(LOCAL_CFLAGS)-DASMV 
-DASMINF" \
"OBJA=inffas32.obj match686.obj"

This won't work:
OBJA="param1 param2"

That on the other hand does the trick:
"OBJA=param1 param2"
