I think I have to give up on this card in Windows XP! If I install a
recent-but-not-latest driver, it says the firmware's too old and so the driver
won't load. Then, the firmware update tool refuses to run because it can't
find a driver! If I install the latest driver and hack the installer tool with
a hex editor so it'd have my own card's vendor string in it, it still won't
load coz the firmware's too old, but the firmware update tool won't run because
I allegedly have the card in WEP mode and I have to disable it in the driver
configuration.

How do you configure a driver that won't load?

I can't downgrade the driver any further, because it complains that there
already exists a device by the same name. And I can't uninstall the driver,
because Device Manager says it might be needed in order to boot, which it
isn't.

The only other option I can think of might be to somehow find the firmware file
alone, and use a firmware hacking utility of some kind to forcibly load the
firmware. Maybe that's possible on Linux.

Any clues? Thanks!
