Background: I have an Airport Extreme unit (home) and a Linksys BEFW11S4 (work)
I recently found a WAP11 and wondered if it could be used to extend the wireless networks I already have into areas where there is no wired connection to the network.
FYI the BEFW11S4 has firmware 1.45.7, Oct 8 2003, and a Linksys WAP11 has firmware 1.4i.1.
I put the WAP11 on the same channel with the same SSID as the Airport Extreme. I put the WAP11 into "Wireless Bridge" mode (both point to point with the MAC address of the A.Extreme and point to multipoint). It did not seem to have any effect on the network range.
Questions:
1) can the WAP11 expand the network even w/o being plugged into another Ethernet port?
2) am I correct that the SSIDs and the channel should be the same?
3) under "AP Mode" I assume the WAP11 should be "Wireless Bridge" and preferably "Point to Point" with the Remote MAC Address entered.
4) the WAP11 asks for an IP. Our network is 192.168.1.x (work) and 192.168.2.x (home)so I assume I just choose an open IP and assign it manually on that same subnet.
Thanks for any help
