Thanks. You have helped me resolve the problem: Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5. If I exited the firewall, I was able to run Ethereal 0.10.11, using "Update list of packets in real time", without Windows locking up; however, I would then get a Windows pop-up telling me about a Kerio fatal application exit, followed moments later by a BSOD and restart. I have since unistalled Kerio Personal Firewall completely and now I no longer have any problems.
Maybe this was also the source of my problems with coLinux. ...off to investigate. :-)
