I already tried that but had no luck :-(
I am very confused about the list of applicable network
adapters/drivers/cards etc in a system.
For example,
1) Drop down list when I run winipcfg
2) Output of "ipconfig /all"
3) Various "TCP/IP -> xxx" bindings as shown in the Network
Configuration
panel
One would think that if the ethernet card is working, surely if I can only
tell WinPCap the name of it, it should be able to at least try to talk to
it.

No, you shouldn't need any special driver. You can try to reinstall both the
network adapter and winpcap and reboot the system.
