Hi, I have attempted to install/run WinPcap & Ethereal on a server, but it does not report any network cards back. I have installed WinPcap 3.0 Alpha 2 and Ethereal(0.9.6) on the server. There was no previous versions of WinPcap on the server. After starting Ethereal I noticed that there was no network devices listed. I opened up a command prompt and tried to manually start the NPF service using npf_mgm -s This returns the following error message: Error Starting Service NPF:%1 is not a valid Win32 application Thereafter I rebooted the server and tried manually starting the NPF service again, but it still did not work. I can happily install/uninstall the NPF service using npf_mgm, but I cannot start the NPF service. Is this a known problem ? I get the impression that a few similar issues have been logged recently: Problem with detecting adapters <msg00767.html>, alex Netgroup Packet Filter wont start <msg00764.html>, Anthony Clark I have also just now tried this with the newest WinPcap 3.0 Alpha 4, rebooting after installation of the new version. I still get the same problem: the NPF service does not want to start. I have been logged in as Administrator on the server. There is something else I also find puzzling - when I look in the Service Control Panel for the NPF service, it is not listed, even though I can attempt to start it from the command line at such time. The server spec is: Dell Poweredge 2650 (Single CPU P4 2.4 GHz) with Win2000 Server SP2 OS and 2 x Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Cards (on board the motherboard) Does anyone know of a workaround or possible solution for this problem ? Is there anything else I can try ? I have installed and used WinPcap on at least 5 other PC's/servers with no problems at all.
