Last year, a group of former students of Winedale--from the prehistoric ages to
the present, from local terrain to places afar--presented Madge Darlington a
gift to honor her “taking up the torch” in the summer and keeping the light of
Winedale burning. The outpouring of generosity allowed us to present Madge with
a $2,000 check acknowledging and celebrating her nurturing of the playful,
risk-taking landscape built by Doc and cultivated by James for years.

to the program. If her outrageously skillful guidance of Shakespeare at
Winedale this summer wasn’t enough, her immense grace in doing so during a
