Maybe that's because it's a buzzwordy new name for a very old idea?

Although as described there, it tends to break if you have multiple
different APIs that aren't necessarily in sync, or if the API is only a
minor portion of the product. And marketing may complain if your competitor
is at version "10" and you're at "2" (despite that being 2.98.917).
