To me, existing Wikimedia projects, like Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and Wikimedia
Commons, are vast ecosystems that rely heavily on community contributions.
Introducing a new project poses the risk of these communities feeling stretched
too thin. There's an apprehension that the novelty of a new project might
attract resources disproportionately, leaving older projects underfunded and
understaffed. Furthermore, the emotional investment in existing projects can
lead to resistance to change, as communities may fear losing their identity or
diminishing their achievements.
One of the most effective ways to address these concerns is to foster a spirit
of collaboration across projects. Encouraging contributors to see the new
project as an extension of their existing work can help maintain a unified
effort.
