Dear Wikimedians, colleagues, and friends,

This is a reminder for the open call for the upcoming funding round of
the Conference
and Events Funds <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference> [1]
with a submission deadline of September 2, 2024.

Since Chen Almog, the Lead Program Officer for Conference & Events Funds,
will be on leave, Cornelius Kibelka will support the upcoming round.

The Conference and Event Fund gives funding and planning support to
organize regional and thematic community conferences. These events bring
Wikimedians together for experience sharing, skill-building, and networking.

We prioritize proposals that:

   -

   Are from underrepresented communities

<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Engagement/Defining_Emerging_Communities>
   [2] that have capacity-building as a main goal.
   -

   Support implementation of the Wikimedia 2030 Strategy recommendations
   <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Grants:Glossary#MSR>.
   [3]
   -

   Partner with affiliates to create regional, thematic, growth groups
   <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/EventCategories> [4]
   in the Wikimedia movement.
   -

   Include outreach and partnering with open knowledge organizations,
   expanding our global reach.
   -

   Empower new participants and contributions with a clear newcomer
   engagement plan.

Please mind that any local events organized by affiliates who are eligible
and receiving a General Support Fund
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/General_Support_Fund>
[5], should be submitted as part of their annual plan, and are not eligible
for a Conference Fund. Please reach out to your Regional program officer if
you have any questions on the topic. For full Eligibility requirements,
please visit the program’s page on Meta.

Later this month, we will introduce a few new changes and improvements to
the program including more support services from the Wikimedia Foundation;
an opportunity to apply for Regional conferences 3 years in advance; and
recommendation for a collaborative regional decision making process. If you
are planning a Regional event
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/Event_Categories> [4],
to take place anytime in the next year, please make sure to reach out to us
as soon as possible.

We are excited to see and learn more about your events! Please develop a

proposal and publish it on Wikimedia Foundation Grantee Portal (Fluxx)
<https://wmf.fluxx.io/> [6] by September 2, 2024. You can find more
information and resources on the Conference and Events Funds page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference>. [1]

Please email us at [email protected] if you have any questions

or when you submit an application.

Cheers,

Cornelius and Chen
