I don't see this mentioned in my config file. Is it an optional value using 
default if nothing is specified? Logic says it's probably something like that, 
but I believed the game would store all settings to this file.

I think we should make this easier/more obvious for people testing with a new 
language. After all, it's the same steps which have to be done in order to make 
the language available in the builds we produce so it has to be done at some 
point. 
This actually makes me wonder, is there any reason why the languages file (or 
multiple files in the suggested fonts branch) is placed in txts instead of 
locale? All the translations are stored there, so that's the first place I 
would look for a list of languages to add my language code to. (Might be placed 
somewhere else to avoid problems attempting to load it as a directory 
containing translations maybe?) Out of scope for this patch probably.
