the changes seems reasonable to me - I only skimmed them though. The changes to the IImageLoader interface breaks then end2end tests of the new FontRenderer in test/richtext - they have been very helpful to track down bugs in the font renderer and make it in the first place. I am unsure if it is worth to try keeping it working always though.
