Worked like a charm. I had been trying a similar approach, but was
attempting to use the following:
target.addComponent(dataTable)
Which complained that there was no page assignment.
This does the trick. Also, for anyone else interested, I had to structure
my markup as:
<div wicket:id="dataTableHolder">
<table wicket:id="dataTable"></table>
</div>
Wicket rocks.
