Requests and components are thread safe in Wicket. The pattern you are looking for might be a thread local (maybe with a servlet filter or custom request cycle). I don't know how expensive sessions are to create, and whether a pool of them is maintained by a repository. You might have to do some pooling yourself, though I'd be surprised if other people haven't thought of that before.
