As it is a new installation, it be worth trying SQLite.
As a database geek, I also run SQLite. There is no need to incur the
overhead of setting up and running MariaDB/MySQL for a single-user
environment. SQLite is light weight and self-contained. If you want to
query it, you can install a client and muck around.
