Frankly, I'm not sure if it will work on a simple VantagePro. As I
understand it, there are almost no differences. However, the API manual is
unclear about how commands are terminated:

Serial commands for Vantage Pro2 must be terminated by a single line feed
> or a single carriage return character, but not both. Older code that
> terminates commands with both a line feed and a carriage return will not

I don't know whether that means the VP2 is fussier about what terminates a
command, or there is a hard difference.

It's certainly worth a try.
