Hi, I'm a new user to weewx and i'm just trying to get my weather station all set up again. Previously i had the WS2350 running on WinXP with a USB to Serial adapter (Nikkai PL2303XA chip) with WeatherDisplay and everything worked fine. Since then the station has been stored for just over a year and im now trying to use Pi3 and weewx to get it all going again.
As far as i know the ws2350 is supported and will work with weewx and a pi given a good USB to serial adaptor. This is where problems begin. I have spent the last two days trying to get the ws2350 console to communicate with various computers/OS's. I have tried the Nikkai adaptor i was using before and have also got a new UGREEN PL2303TA (latest chip i believe) adaptor which also does not work. I have tried on Win10 with HeavyWeather and WeatherDisplay again, on my Ubuntu desktop with weewx and on the Pi3 with weewx. After trying on each system with each adaptor the console just doesn't seem to be communicating. I have also tried using cu command and it just says Connected and thats it. Syslog doesn't really give me any errors about the adaptor/connection besides when weewx fails to connect after 100 retries. A serial port monitor on my Win10 laptop shows some reads in hex but it seems to repeat the same thing (im no expert in this). I have also tried doing modprobe -r pl2303 and then modprobe pl2303, have tried sudo chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB0. Saw these that some people had tried on other sites. My user is also part of the dialout group. If anyone has any suggestion as how to debug this, assuming the console serial cable is fine and the usb to serial adaptors should work, could it be software? has the console given up on communicating through the port? Also i took the console apart and there does not appear to be any damage to connections etc. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Attached in the syslog from the pi, from plugging in the adaptor/console to the retry error.
