have not used the deb install, or the GUI I am afraid - so cannot help very much.
Many commands require sudo to be used, and it is likely that when done via the GUI you are asked for your pi password (just guessing) PS - how is sunny Rhyll?? Have flown along the North Wales coastline many times en route from Ince Blundell to Caernarfon - and even made a forced landing near Point of Ayr several years ago!!
