don't laugh but I thought I tried the awakeFromInsertion method. Then, I looked 
again I realize I put it on the wrong EO. So here is the awakeFromInsertion and 
it does what I want:

        super.awakeFromInsertion (editingContext);

        this.setRowColor(RowColor.fetchRequiredRowColor(editingContext,
