I tried to fix it but was unsuccessful so I resorted to just making sure that my content does not take up the entire section. I use a width of 95% and that did the trick. I know that this is not the best fixed. I will be looking on it some more.
NB: This problem only happens when the columns are NOT turned on. So I only have to do this on pages where I did not turn on any columns. Luckily most of my pages have columns. I think it has to do with the margin-left:20px to the section when its of class="span12". Not sure.
