[web2py] Markmin - could we use instead of ?

I see bold is <strong>,  so why is em rendered as <i> - it is inconsistent. 
 Also inconsistent with Markdown.  And <i> isn't even styled in the current 
web2py.js (unless I'm missing something).   Anyhow,  if it wouldn't cause a 
problem, could we please change it.  Thanks.
