1. i think they just promoted it to be generally available in the last couple of weeks. 2. there is also the files API. check out the google docs for writing directly to a blob. for end-user uploads that slice is still pretty accurate. i may have some minor enhancements to error checking since then, but nothing has changed in the functionality that i use.
