Ive got to say that this is an annoyance for me too. I've been working around it to date but been thinking of delving into the world of the JSON serializer to see how hard it would be to make the _extra fields come through properly.
Problem is that DAL would also have to be touched to provide the equivalent of SQL AS so that something else than the expression can be returned as the column name.
