I found out that I had caused my own problem. This plugin now works as expected on IE7, IE8 and firefox. (I had modified the toolbar to add a few items and remove the scayt_autostartup. I left a comma after the toolbar's closing bracket ], Firefox was ok with this, but IE wasnt')
