By default the search performs looks that every keyword that you type appears in any of the fields (string and text only). BUT
SQLFORM.grid(....,searchable=True) SQLFORM.smartgrid(....,searchable=True) take an argument searchable which can be replaced by your own search function which will do: subquery = searchable(key,fields) where key is key = request.vars.get('keywords','').strip() and fields is a list of field which are displayed.
